Situé en bordure de la nationale 116, SAILLAGOUSE est le point de départ des routes d'accès aux vallées environnantes par les départementales 33 vers Llo et Eyne, Err et le Puigmal, Estavar Llivia et l'Espagne; et 29 vers Font Romeu; il est traversé par le Sègre, affluent de l'Ebre, c'est un torrent qui descend de la montagne par la vallée de Llo.
Il est aussi desservi par le Train Jaune de Cerdagne qui relie Villefranche de Conflent à La Tour de Carol et 2 aérodromes de montagne l'un à Sainte Léocadie à 3 kms, l'autre à La Llagonne à 25 kms.
La situation géographique de SAILLAGOUSE et son altitude moyenne en font toute l'année un centre climatique et touristique très agréable.
